On The Art Trail with Peter Buwalda: Bones

Finding Skulls was exciting for me in the woods. Skulls have carried so much symbolism through the ages, good and evil, however I choose to assign meaning to them in the positive forms of balance, rebirth/growth, and protection. I think of the animal it was and the special abilities it had while living and honour the life it lived. It can be very difficult to find intact skulls in the wild as it plainly is such a good source of calcium and minerals that they get eaten up by smaller animals and organisms and quickly reborn into the energy cycle of everything.
